Je pars du constat que nous assistons à une crise grave et grandissante caractérisée par une droitisation des sociétés, une précarisation généralisée, un accroissement des inégalités, une exacerbation des haines racistes, masculinistes et transphobes, et par un effondrement écologique… ; une crise entretenue et aggravée par un système hégémonique néolibéral déshumanisant. In 2025, I have the pleasure of organizing the The International Simone de Beauvoir Society’s annual online conference on an important theme close to my heart (and body, I must say)…
“Reconnecting with Simone de Beauvoir’s Radical Thought. Critical, Interdisciplinary, and International Conversations”.
My starting point is the observation that we are witnessing a severe and growing crisis characterized by the rightward shift of societies, widespread precarity, increasing inequalities, the exacerbation of racist, masculinist, and transphobic hatreds, and ecological collapse—a crisis perpetuated and worsened by a dehumanizing hegemonic neoliberal system. In this critical context, the 30th International Conference of the Simone de Beauvoir Society, which will take place online from June 16 to 19, 2025, has two objectives. Read the call online.
Researchers, writers, readers, students… don’t hesitate to send a proposal, whatever your discipline or approach, and even without institutional affiliation! Creative criticism is more than welcome.
Non-Beauvoir specialists are welcome! The aim is to decenter and put several thinkers in conversation to reflect on a common emancipation project based on the frictions that will emerge.
